Just one strip light.

For my final image I am using the 90cm x 35cm strip box for its soft but directional quality. It may not be everyones first choice of modifier for this particular shot but I wanted a light source that would enable me to control the direction and spill of light. I wanted the light to illuminate only my subject and not to brighten the background or the foreground therefore the choice of a small stripbox was ideal.

The light source was placed directly above my model using a boom arm to make positioning easier. This enabled me to light just the model and the sofa and the light fall-off created by this strip would add some mood creating shadows reminiscent of the 50‘s Hollywood style era.

In summary, strip lights are great modifiers for people photography. Their ease of control makes them ideal choices for many lighting situations where they can be used for separation, highlighting, rim-lighting or keylighting. With careful consideration of the correct strip light for the job, you can make your life very easy, setting up very quickly to produce great creative lighting.
